Allison is a smaller subdivision of the Hamilton Mountain area south of the Hamilton core. The area takes its name from the Hamilton portion of the Niagara Escarpment and the resulting elevation of the area. Within this larger area, Allison is located at the very south end of the Central Hamilton Mountain area. Allison is south of Rymal Road East, west of the Mt. Hamilton Cemetery, and east of Upper James Street. Allison is sometimes considered to be a part of the larger Ryckmans neighbourhood, but is set apart by the spacious lots and pools that wind around Allison Crescent.
With the exception of a couple of commercial buildings on Rymal Road and Upper James Street, Allison is a purely residential neighbourhood of Hamilton. The neighbourhood is popular among families for its larger lot sizes, detached homes, yard space, and great pool potential. Many of the lots already have pools, but the average backyard size could likely accommodate one that doesn’t already. The price of detached housing in the Hamilton Mountain area is fairly standard for the city. Less than $500,000 corresponds to a decent sized bungalow, older multi-story property, or semi-detached home while $700,000 and over means a newer house or more modern upgrades.
Allison is an exceedingly family-friendly neighbourhood located quite far south of the Hamilton core. This little neighbourhood is close to many important amenities like convenient shopping, schools, and parks. Hamilton Public Transit is accessible by stops north of Allison and buses can be caught on both sides of the road. Further north is access to the Lincoln M. Alexander Parkway, which eventually feeds into the 403 highway to the west. Numerous shopping and dining options are just around the corner along Upper James Street between Rymal and Stone Church. As for schools, there are two elementary schools in the area and both are quite close to Allison. Corpus Christi Catholic Elementary School is located across Upper James Street and Ray Lewis, a public elementary school is located about 2km east of Allison along Rymal Road.
